Registration for Nature Trekkers Summer Camp

Yoga on the way Home
Why fight the traffic? Slow down and relax in the peaceful beauty of the Arboretum during a one-hour yoga session in the Arboretum's classroom overlooking the forest.
Cost is $10 per session when registering for a month or $15 per session.

Nature Trekkers Summer Camp: Goosebumps & Mysteries

Nature’s mysteries will be revealed as campers explore creatures of the night, creepy crawlies and the folklore that surrounds them. Children will learn about bats, spiders, horned lizards and other eerie, but interesting creatures in the animal kingdom. Cost is $230 for members, $270 for non-members. Morning only (9 a.m.-12 p.m.) camp option is also available. Cost is $120 for members, $150 for non-members. Pre-registration required.

Summer Art Camp: Seed, Leaf, Flower, Fruit

The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center in partnership with City ArtWorks is offering Summer Art Camp classes for ages 5 to 12. Teachers from City ArtWorks will help kids discover the magic of the plant world by turning close observation into fabulous works of art. Cost is $100 for members; $110 for non-members

Wednesdays, July 7, 14, 21 & 28

Introductory Tai Chi
The Arboretum provides a serene, natural backdrop for this graceful and meditative form of exercise. Class will be held outside except when weather conditions are prohibitive. Cost is $15 per session or $45 per month.

Dragonflies & Damselflies of the Upper Texas Coast
Learn the unique characteristics of dragonflies and damselflies, which species are commonly seen in Houston, how to find them for observation and photography, as well as ways to attract them to your yard.

Instructor: Glenn Olsen is a member and past president of the Native Plant Society of Texas and a co-founder of the "WildScapes Workshops", a partnership between the Houston Chapter of the Native Plant Society and Texas Parks and Wildlife. Cost is $40 for members, $50 for non-members

Nature Trekkers Summer Camp: Amazing Survivor Camp
Animals, plants, and people all have different strategies to live. Campers will learn survival skills as they build a shelter, cook with a solar oven, navigate with a compass, identify animal tracks and make a terrarium to take home.
Cost is $230 for members, $270 for non-members. Morning only (9 a.m.-12 p.m.) camp option is also available. Cost is $120 for members, $150 for non-members. Pre-registration required.

Campers will investigate the watery ecosystems at the Arboretum and discover the creatures and features that make them “tick.” Cost is $230 for members, $270 for non-members. Summer Art Camp: Wonderful World of Color
The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center in partnership with City ArtWorks is offering Summer Art Camp classes for ages 5 to 12. Colors of nature will be the inspiration for a week of fun, creative art projects lead by teachers from City ArtWorks. Cost is $100 for members; $110 for non-members.

Nature Trekkers Summer Camp: Ickyology
In this week of camp, children will study all things slimy, stinky and slippery as they investigate nature’s gross and icky side. Cost is $230 for members, $270 for non-members. Morning only (9 a.m.-12 p.m.) camp option is also available. Cost is $120 for members, $150 for non-members. Pre-registration required.

Afternoon Class: Yoga for Kids
Children enjoy some of the same benefits of yoga that adults do, such as improved body awareness, coordination, and even stress relief. Yoga instructor Nancy Sorenson has been teaching adults and children for 15 years. She will introduce simple yoga poses that relate to the natural world. Nancy will incorporate stories, books and play to make this late afternoon class a welcome energy release for kids.
