Hike the Arboretum for Earth Day - Let's G.O.
(Get Outside)
The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center is encouraging families to Get Outside for Earth Day with free activities including a hike along an Arboretum trail, Animal Activity Challenge stations, and more on Saturday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Families are encouraged to hike along the Arboretum’s Outer Loop trail which will feature “Animal Activity Challenge” stations where visitors can learn about animals of the Houston area and how they move. Kids can see how fast they can run compared to some of the mammals that live in the Arboretum. The “Squirrel Scamper” station will challenge participants to practice balancing across a log and at “Hop, Skip and Jump” families can learn how their jumping skills match up to frogs and other animals.
Staff from REI’s Houston store will be onsite from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a demonstration campsite and information on opportunities for outdoor family recreation.
Arboretum memberships will be discounted for the day and those joining will receive discount coupons to local museums and attractions.
Family Membership: $70 $50; Couple Membership: $50 $35; Individual: $35 $25
Senior/Student: $30 $20
The hike will end at the Arboretum’s building where visitors can shop at a Native plant sale, featuring aquatic and bog plants. Refreshments, including Freebirds Burritos will also be available for purchase.
