Tai Chi
The Arboretum provides a serene, natural backdrop for this graceful, meditative form of exercise. Sifu Dale Napier is certified in a form of Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan and is a gold medal winner in tournament competition.
Cost is $40 for June (4 sessions); or $15 per session. Registration is required.

Yoga for Kids/Families
This yoga class, designed especially for children and/or families includes basic yoga in a fun, imaginative class imitating animals and plants found in the Arboretum. Instructor Su Marshman is an early childhood and special education instructor who has been teaching yoga to children since 1999.
Cost per session is $10 for children; $5 for adults. Registration is required.

Yoga On the Way Home
Why fight the traffic? Slow down and relax. Restorative Yoga is every Thursday in the Arboretum's classroom (with a view of the forest) . Cost is $40 for June or $15 per session. For more information, call 713-681-8433. Registration is required. |

National Trails Day Celebration
The Arboretum will celebrate National Trails Day with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. to rededicate the Alice Brown Loop Trail, which has recently been resurfaced and was designed to accommodate visitors of various mobility levels. Other activities will include a Trail Puzzle Hike for visitors to collect puzzle pieces on a trail and redeem them in the Nature Center building for a free one year membership to the Arboretum’s Trail Trekker walking program. National Trails Day was started by the American Hiking Society to inspire the public and trail enthusiasts nationwide to learn about and celebrate their local trails. Admission to this event is free.

Inner Peace for Busy People
This two hour workshop will include both discussion and practicum, including beginner’s yoga and meditation exercises. Instructor Amy Robinson is a Life Balance Coach and owner of TRIUNE Consulting.

Summer Camp: City Critters
Learn about the creatures who manage to live close to humans while still staying wild. We’ll see how everyone can make their yard a miniature wildlife preserve to attract some of these intriguing critters. Students will become the family expert on ecology with an urban twist.
Cost is $230 for members, $270 for non-members.

Landscaping for Birds and Butterflies
Learn the principles necessary to create an oasis for birds and butterflies. Course topics will include: plant selection, plant diversity and placement in the landscape, water features, and the process for obtaining certification as a Wildlife Habitat. Instructor Glenn Olsen is past president of the Native Plant Society of Texas.
Cost: $95 for members; $110 for non-members. Registration required.

Summer Camp: Arboretum Underground
Discover the hidden world right beneath your feet. Explore everything from plant roots to voracious shrews and set your sights on anything that hunts burrows, sleeps or lives underground.

Understanding Plants
This course will explore basic plant anatomy, germination and growth requirements, reproduction, plant survival strategies and invasive species. Answers to such questions as why plants need pruning in different seasons, why some seeds sprout quickly while others are difficult to germinate and why some plants seem to grow or worsen near certain other plants, will be explored.
Cost is $50 for members; $70 for non-members. Pre-registration required. |

Buffalo Bayou Canoe Trip
Spend the afternoon in a canoe on Buffalo Bayou and explore its natural history. This stretch of bayou flows between I-610 and Shepherd Drive, one of the wildest portions of the bayou, includes the Arboretum and Memorial Park. The trip will be preceded by a mandatory orientation at the Arboretum on Thursday evening, June 19. This outdoor class is one in a series of trips sponsored by the Arboretum and Whitewater Experience founder Don Greene. While canoeing experience is not necessary, a desire to learn definitely is. Why does a cat stalk its prey? Why are some grasshoppers shaped like a leaf? Life on our planet is a never-ending struggle between predators and prey. Find out how creatures great and small use smarts, speed, strength special senses, coloration and weapons to survive.

Summer Camp: Living on the Edge - Endangered Species
Have you ever seen a Red Wolf, a Texas Horned Lizard, a Houston Toad or a White-nosed Coati? These animals are all native to Texas, yet seldom seen because they are either endangered or threatened species. Learn about the rarest of Texas animals and the reasons for their rarity through games, educational crafts and outside activities.
