Registration for Nature Trekkers Summer Camp is open.

Introductory Tai Chi
The Arboretum provides a serene, natural backdrop for this graceful and meditative form of exercise. Class will be held outside except when weather conditions are prohibitive. Cost is $15 per session or $45 per month.

Yoga on the way Home
Why fight the traffic? Slow down and relax in the peaceful beauty of the Arboretum during a one-hour yoga session in the Arboretum's classroom overlooking the forest.
Cost is $10 per session when registering for a month or $15 per session.

National Trails Day Volunteer Project with REI-Houston
REI and Houston Arboretum & Nature Center will be doing trail maintenance on the Arboretum's Inner Loop Trail, including building boardwalks, mulching and removing invasive species.Please wear closed-toed shoes, sun block, and bug spray. You must be at least 18 years of age or accompanied by an adult (minimum age to participate is 12 years).
Pre-registration is required.

2 - 5 p.m. Tails on the Trails sponsored by 002Houston

The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center invites dogs on leashes and their owners to an afternoon of fun including a hike to explore the Arboretum trails at “Tails on the Trails” on Saturday, June 5 from 2 to 5 p.m.

Pooches and their human pals can pick up their water, doggie bag and treat before heading out to strut, stroll, and sniff an Arboretum trail that winds through the forest, past a pond (no swimming, please) and back to the party for refreshments provided by Freebirds World Burrito and Smartwater®, music and door prizes.

Admission (includes one dog with owner) is $15 for Arboretum members and $20 for non-members; $5 for each additional co-owner or dog. Kids 17 and under, with parent are free. RSVP to INFO@LTBAEHR.COM or 713-485-4507.

Kids will learn the different strategies that animals, plants and people have to live, as well as finding out the essentials for survival in the Arboretum wilderness. Cost is $230 for members, $270 for non-members. Morning only (9 a.m.-12 p.m.) camp option is also available. Cost is $120 for members, $150 for non-members. Pre-registration required.

Summer Art Camp: "Birds of a Feather"

The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center in partnership with City ArtWorks is offering Summer Art Camp classes for ages 5 to 12. Teachers from City ArtWorks will lead children in fun, creative art projects inspired by the many types of birds that can be found at the Arboretum. Cost is $100 for members; $110 for non-members

Nature Photography Critique with Kathy Adams Clark
Learn to improve your nature photography skills from an expert. Kathy Adams Clark has been a full-time nature photographer since 1995. Participants have the opportunity to receive feedback and suggestions on their own photos from Clark. Cost is $35 for members; $50 for non-members.

Campers will investigate the watery ecosystems at the Arboretum and discover the creatures and features that make them “tick.” Cost is $230 for members, $270 for non-members. After Camp Class: Creative Movement Camp

Creative Movement Camp focuses on locomotor skills with the use of music and games. Children will enjoy dance, yoga, rhythm instruments, tumbling and gardening. Instructors will guide children through non-competitive activities that will stimulate mind and body, and will give participants freedom to imagine and create their own movement material. Cost is $100 for members; $110 for non-members. Pre-registration required.

Hands-on outdoor photo session on Sat., June 19:

Outdoor Portrait Photography
Houston professional photographer David Vu will share tips and techniques of photographing subjects outside. Class will cover equipment choices, focus and aperture settings, tricky lighting and positioning challenges presented by the outdoors. Learn focus-through and selective focus techniques to highlight different parts of the subject and control the background. Class will meet at the Arboretum on Saturday, June 19, 9 a.m. to noon for hands-on practice with an outdoor photography session.

Instructor David Vu is a well-known Houston photographer who enjoys wildlife and nature photography in his free time.

Cost is $55 for members; $65 for non-members.

Big Thicket Carnivorous Plants Field Trip
The Big Thicket is one of the most biodiverse areas in North America. The 83,000 acre preserve in the East Texas piney woods is the biological crossroads of four distinct ecosystems: southeastern swamps, eastern forests, central plains, and southwest deserts. This full day field trip will include visits to several of the 11 distinct plant associations that make up this area, with walks to look for the four species of carnivorous plants found nowhere else in Texas: pitcher plant, bladderwort, butterwort, and sundew. Opportunities for photography and bird watching will be included in addition to the plant forays.

Trip Leaders: Bill Eley is Program Development Director at the Houston Arboretum and has 30 years of birding experience. Glenn Olsen has had a lifelong interest in nature, primarily birds and plants. He is a member and past president of the Native Plant Society of Texas and a member and past Vice President of Education for the Houston Audubon Society.

Cost (includes transportation) is $65 for members; $75 for non-members

Summer Solstice Wine & Cheese Celebration
Celebrate the summer solstice on the Arboretum meadow deck with wine and cheese as Tai Chi instructor Dale Napier shares the history of solstice celebrations in cultures around the world. After a brief demonstration, attendees will have the opportunity to learn easy Tai Chi movements characteristic of the Chinese celebration of summer. A tasting of local honeys and mead will also be offered.

Cost is $25 for members; $30 for non-members (will be indoors if inclement weather)
