School Programs - Meet You Outside! Cooper's Hawk

The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center has created field trip programs to provide students and teachers with hands-on outdoor Guided Field Experiences designed with a focus on TEKS objectives. The Discovery Room is filled with self-directed activities and exhibits to learn about the natural environment and compliment the Guided Field Experience.

Programs are available for Kindergarten to 12th grade classes.

Scheduling for 2011-2012 is now open.
Looking forward to your registration early next school year.

  • Guided Field Experience Our science based programs help your students achieve Texas Education Agency science requirements, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Staff naturalists and docents use the 155-acre nature sanctuary as a hands-on laboratory for students. (Aug. - May only)
  • Discovery Room Program The Discovery Room offers students a place to sharpen their observation skills and enjoy hands-on interactive exhibits, microscopes and touch screens. It's a welcoming place to learn about life cycles, food chains, habitats and food webs.
  • Field Adventures Schedule your group for both the Guided Field Experience and Discovery Room Program. A FULL DAY of hands-on science.
  • Water Quality Monitoring Middle and High School students can participate in a survey of natural aquatic habitats. Students perform basic water testing procedures and an aquatic invertebrate survey. Participants learn the importance of watersheds and identify their local watershed.
  • Discovery Boxes Set up a Discovery Box as an interest center in your classroom. Each box provides activities that teach ecological concepts and relates those concepts to our local environment.
  • Educator E-news Stay in the loop on the latest Arboretum programs, workshops and special events just for educators. You control your subscription - sign up now.
