Have fun with fellow educators and nature enthusiasts while earning SBEC credits.
The Arboretum offers a few options for educators to learn more about the natural history of the Houston area, use hands-on activities and nature in curriculum and earn credits for professional development. These include Educator Workshops offered in partnership with Region 4 Educational Services Center, and various adult natural history classes offered throughout the year.

Project Learning Tree (PLT) - October 8, 2011
The Elementary school curriculum (preK-8) takes an interdisciplinary, hands-on approach to learning and contains more than 90 different lesson plans. In addition to teaching about science, trees and forestry, Project Learning Tree can be used to teach language arts, social studies, nutrition, mathematics, visual arts, and more. The PLT curriculum is correlated with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.

Other Educator Workshops
Nature 101 Classes
Learn about the natural history of plants and animals native to our area. Each 2 hour class includes hands-on projects and fun, educational activities.
$25 for Arboretum members; $35 for non-members
Forest Ecology - Saturday, November 19, 2011: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Most of the Arboretum is a forest - learn about its wildlife and plants and how they interact as an ecological system.
Wetland Ecology - Saturday, November 19, 2011: 1- 3 p.m.
Why are wetlands so important? Discover the importance of habitat and energy transfer. Did you know you can tell the health of a wetland by looking at what kind of bugs live in it?
