Professional Development for Educators

Have fun with fellow educators and nature enthusiasts while earning SBEC credits.
The Arboretum offers a few options for educators to learn more about the natural history of the Houston area, use hands-on activities and nature in curriculum and earn credits for professional development. These include Nature 101 classes, Educator Workshops offered in partnership with Region 4 Educational Services Center, and various adult natural history classes offered throughout the year.

Educator Workshops through Region 4

The following workshops are being offered in partnership with Region 4 Educational Services Center. Registration MUST be done through their website. To register go to: www.esc4.net

Aquatic Project WILD - October 9, 2010

Learn how to teach young people about aquatic wildlife using fun, hands-on educational activities. During the six-hour training, workshop participants will sample activities and receive a curriculum and activity guide. Activities are adaptable for all grade levels, integrated with core subject curricula and aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.

Project Learning Tree (PLT) - To be determined

The Elementary school curriculum (preK-8) takes an interdisciplinary, hands-on approach to learning and contains more than 90 different lesson plans. In addition to teaching about science, trees and forestry, Project Learning Tree can be used to teach language arts, social studies, nutrition, mathematics, visual arts, and more. The PLT curriculum is correlated with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.
