Tadpole Troopers

Tadpole Troopers classes are nature investigations for 3, 4 and early 5 year olds accompanied by a big person of their choice. Learn how to engage your child or grandchild in a lifelong love of the outdoors.

Join us this fall as we grab our nets and go "dipping" in the ponds. We will learn about the different organisms that live in or around pond habitats.

Saturdays, 2:00-3:15 p.m. - Our special section for 5 year olds only is designed to meet the growth and development needs of your 5 year old and serve as a transition into the Naturalist Explorers classes.

  • One parent/adult participant per child required (only one adult please).
  • Advanced reservation required. Register online or by mail or fax (713-682-2539). Payment must be included at time of registration.
  • Registration deadline is the Wednesday prior to each class; confirmation will be mailed or emailed to you.
  • Cost (per child/per class): $12 for members (Family Tree or above); $24 for non-members.
  • Series Discount: Register for all 4 classes by September 10 and save: $45 for members; $90 for non-members.
  • Cancellation policy: You must notify us of your cancellation in writing via fax (713-682-2539) or email no later than 10 days prior to class to receive a 50% refund. No refunds are issued within 10 days of class.

September: Insects Aren't so Icky

Come discover how dragonflies spend part of their lifecycle in the water and then develop into beautiful flying creatures. We will have a fabulous time looking for whirligigs, backswimmers, and water striders.

November: Fantastic Fish

What eats mosquitoes for lunch? It is a mosquito fish! Come join us as we "go fishing" and discover how fish are very important insect controllers.

Why do turtles have shells? Troopers will have a great time observing turtles and learning about this popular reptile of the Arboretum.
